Inside out Oreo balls are almost like a decantant truffle of
sorts, devilishly good and relatively easy to make.
1 package Oreos – minus 3 Oreos, (because I
just have to pull out some milk and eat those)
1 - 8 oz package of cream cheese
A couple of squares of candy coating/ almond bark
In a large Ziplock bag add Oreos and cream cheese. Make sure
it is double bagged, not put this on a table, or counter with a child. Give the
child a wooden spoon or rolling pin and ask the child to smash it to bits! (If
child isn’t present put Oreos in food processor then add cream cheese, mix till
smooth.)
Roll in to small ball about ½” size or just under quarter
size, placing balls on cookie sheet covered in wax paper. Refrigerate about 30
mins, or if in Omaha just set outside 10 mins in snow.
Then dip these pretties into melted candy coating/ almond
bark. Allow to set, drizzle with opposite color. If eating immediately –enjoy,
if given as a gift double dip these babies and refrigerate, can last up to 2
weeks in fridge. Or you can freeze up to 3 months.
Working with candy coating/ or almond bark.- The trick here
is to only work with one square at a time heating up according to directions on
package, won’t look melted but mix with a fork and you may be surprised, you
are looking for a velvety, lightly shiny finish. Once your Chocolate is looking
either soiled with the product you are dipping (excess strawberry juice or
parts of Oreo etc. then fully clean out bowl and start over. Reheating more
chocolate on top of mess will result in lumpy dried out chocolate bits and make
your dip look unattractive. I call for my kids to come lick out the bowl, then
they wash it, I pull out another bowl in the interim.
Drizzling- pick out another color of almond bark/candy coating.
I often switch back and forth between white over brown chocolate and
visa-versa. Heat in microwave as usual, then with the fork you mix it with,
just make a sweeping motion back and forth over the strawberry. This will give
the little pretty lines on the strawberry, remember a little goes a long way,
don’t overdo it, you don’t need more then 4-6 stripes and a piece that small to
make it have the effect. Over doing it can make it look more home made.
