Ingredients:
Candy coating/ or almond bark
Powdered sugar
Strawberries
To make these beauties first slice the strawberries, then cut out the white oart and stem to form a heart. these hearts are great for deocrating other items such as cupcake. Then pat dry the slices with a paper towel, then dip into powdered sugar, then dip into chocolate ( I use a fork to keep the chocolate from going everywhere) I dip into the chocolate and pull out strawberry sort of swirling over the top to allow excess chocolate to fall back down into bowl. Then lay the better side up on wax paper. If you 7/8 dip like shown, then these have to be refrigerated immediately and eaten within 2-3 days. If fully and double dipped (dip allow to sit turn over dip again resting the other side up this time), then you can leave them out and eat in 4-5 day or refrigerate them for up to 2 weeks. Or you can freeze up to 3 months. Fully dipped strawberries left out make a sort of cordial; they form their own syrup out of the sugars and juices from the strawberry. I leave them out for two day to form cordial then fridge or freeze them. This is my favorite way to eat them, and give them out as gifts; the other way- not fully dipped is great for parties because they are prettier, but they need to be made the day before or day of.
Working with candy coating/ or almond bark.- The trick here is to only work with one square at a time heating up according to directions on package, won’t look melted but mix with a fork and you may be surprised, you are looking for a velvety, lightly shiny finish. Once your Chocolate is looking either soiled with the product you are dipping (excess strawberry juice or parts of Oreo etc. then fully clean out bowl and start over. Reheating more chocolate on top of mess will result in lumpy dried out chocolate bits and make your dip look unattractive. I call for my kids to come lick out the bowl, then they wash it, I pull out another bowl in the interim.
Drizzling- pick out another color of almond bark/candy coating. I often switch back and forth between white over brown chocolate and visa-versa. Heat in microwave as usual, then with the fork you mix it with, just make a sweeping motion back and forth over the strawberry. This will give the little pretty lines on the strawberry, remember a little goes a long way, don’t overdo it, you don’t need more then 4-6 stripes and a piece that small to make it have the effect. Over doing it can make it look more home made.
