I love sweet as much as the next person, but come on who has time to make brownies from scratch? Why would you anyway, today they have made mixes so good, and I have a few tricks to make them even better.
I am a professional chef
who has always used pre-made mixes- if and only if they are as good as I can
make. Now spaghetti sauces and crème brulee still fall short, however Betty
Crocker moist deluxe cake mixes, Betty Crocker brownies and Nestle toll house cookies
are still amazing mixes. However good they are there is always room for
improvement. Case in point my famous lemon cake is super easy but most wouldn't
know it. 1st rule of cooking don't reinvent the wheel let someone else do most
of the work for you if it’s good. What's the second you ask? Presentation, did
you know that 20% of taste is presentation. People have decided how good your
food is before it hits their mouth or even their nose.
Now back to the lemon cake use moist deluxe lemon cake - Betty Crockers please only (highly important! Other brands say they are the same thing, but they really aren't) bake the cake in a bunt pan this is the part about the presentation. Grease pan with Bakers Joy (mix of cooking spray and flour in spray can and variety will do) coating. Bake according to box directions for bunt, after baking pour approx. 1/2 can of thawed limeaid concentrate over hot cake. let sit 5 mins. Turn the cake over on to plate. drizzle with lemon glaze (2 tablespoons lemon juice and approx 3/4 cup powdered sugar add more if runny) after completely cool. then you can zest a bit of orange peel to decorate the top.
Serve with whipped cream (my favorite 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, 1/2 teaspoon almond extract, 1/4 to 1/2 cup powdered sugar) Amazing result and easy for you.

2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup heavy cream
The brownies are really good on their own, but if you’re looking to punch them up just a bit the only thing the brownies really need is semi sweet and dark chocolate chips added to store mix. Add regular ingredients and bake as directed. For another fun variation add Raspberry jam in spoonfuls and swirl with butter knife, also good with the dark chocolate chips.
Nestle cookies are fabulous all on their own however you can always add dried cherries or butterscotch chips to punch them up a bit. cut up cherries in quarters because you want good size bites for taste and appearance.
It is always good for presentation alone to add something to these mixes to give them the personal touch. This makes them look more appealing and makes them look like you went the extra step, gourmet if you will.
Just try and remember Bisquick still makes fabulous biscuits and pancakes just add herb butter to the top of the biscuits and fruit to the pancake batter banana and strawberry are my favs. Betty Crocker really has dessert mixes down.
